In the charming village of Colți, Romania, an elderly woman went about her life with an unusual doorstep: a 7-pound rock she had discovered in a nearby stream. The rock served its purpose well, holding the door open on breezy days. Little did she know that this rock was, in fact, a magnificent amber nugget—the largest ever found, valued at over $1 million.
The story becomes even more intriguing when thieves targeted the woman’s home in search of valuables. They rummaged through her belongings, taking what they thought was valuable but completely overlooked the treasure right in front of them.
After the woman’s passing, a relative inherited her house and belongings. Curiosity got the better of him when he noticed the unusual rock. Upon further investigation, it was revealed to be one of the rarest and most valuable amber nuggets ever discovered. According to Dr. Elena Ionescu, a Romanian geologist, “The discovery of this amber nugget is remarkable not only for its size but also for its preservation. It provides invaluable insights into the ancient environment of the region.”
The Romanian government recognized the nugget’s historical and scientific significance, and it was declared a national treasure. It is now housed in the provincial museum of Buzău. As Dr. Mihai Popescu, a curator at the museum, notes, “This amber nugget serves as a testament to the hidden treasures that can be found in the most unexpected places, reminding us of the rich natural heritage we often overlook.”
